Start with the exact number
A number transfer, also called porting, moves a telephone number between compatible providers. An area code alone cannot establish eligibility. Ask the carrier that will host your service to check the full number, its rate center and the type of service you want, including mobile, landline or internet-based calling. Separate buying from activation
Acquiring a number, making it available for transfer and activating it with your destination carrier are different steps. A supplier availability label is not confirmation that the destination carrier has accepted a port. FancyNumber.ca currently supports searching and comparing only: purchases, transfer services and payments are not active.
Confirm the information required
Before a future order, ask which account details, authorized name, service address, transfer PIN and authorization documents the destination carrier requires. Requirements vary by provider and number. Do not share porting credentials in public messages or ordinary contact forms. Use an authenticated, secure delivery channel when an actual order service becomes available.
Keep existing service until the carrier confirms
For a number already in use, ask both providers how service continuity will be handled. Do not cancel existing service solely because a transfer request has been submitted. Confirm the carrier’s instructions and completion status first. Allow for the possibility that calling, messaging or other features need additional configuration.
Timing and cost questions
Ask when the number becomes eligible for transfer, whether manual verification is needed, what could delay a request and which charges apply. There is no universal completion time. Prices on this site are one-time USD number prices; they do not establish the full cost of activation, recurring service or a future transfer.
